Though you wouldn’t have guessed by the gorgeous weather we’ve been having lately. I’ve been trying to make the most of it by taking long meandering walks with Quinn.

These walks are really ridiculously pretty. I shall be sad when the skies turn grey and the rain turns the grass all muddy.

On the weekend The Boy and I took Quinn out to the Waitakere Ranges and did the walk up to the Ketekete Falls. I love that walk, I’ve done it a few times before (and it appears I’ve blogged about it a couple times too!)

With the gorgeous weather we’ve been having, it was a great to be outside. And it was a brilliant way to wear out Quinn and some great exercise for us. It’s a nice easy walk too, an awesome way to spend an afternoon.

When you find yourself with a neon pink wig, it’s only natural to want to put it on your dog, right?

It’s the first time I’d ever asked him to do something as crazy as this and he wasn’t happy about it. At the same time, I was offering him cheese treats. You can see which side one out. :)

I was sick for a couple days this week (Me and fluids had a falling out. Me and the IV drip had a brief reunion. Sigh.) so I’ve spent the last few days at home. In my boredom I tidy-ed. And apparently this what happens when I bed make now. Just quitely I think Sibling taught him as a new game.

I love that he always looks so confused after. Yay for funny little dogs :)

On the weekend, I went to the Pasifika Festival. It’s a pretty intense day that promotes pacific cultures. There were LOADS of people, a billion food stalls, and craft stalls. There were performances (oh MAN I loved the Cook Island drum performance!) and dancers dancing in the rain and people beat boxing and whatever.

To be honest on the day I was pretty miserable. I had Quinn with me, which meant telling every second person that NO they can not touch him, and YES he is a minuture Yorkshire Terrier, and could you kindly get your big fat feet off my dog . . . in the end I brought a perfectly sized kete (a steal at $20!) and carried him around on my shoulder. :)

Then it started raining. Sigh. The poor little guy was shivering enough, so I brought a small dyed lavalava (woo, $8!) to drape over my shoulder to protect him from the rain. Which would have been fine, till I realised that the rain was staining my white hoodie blue. And the kete was adding in purple spots.

Siiiigh. In the end I adopted the ‘fuck it’ attitude and got on with my day. I ended up eating two of those delicious corn things (yay for corn!), and my friend tried Banana Poke (a heavy cornstarchy cake like thing), and had icecream in pineapple shells.

We wandered around and checked everything out (multiple times bumping into John Key, who with his entourage managed to block what small walkways there were!) and by the end of the day I was exhausted, had managed to dye Quinn’s head blue with the wet lavalava, and was full of good food.

It was a good day, even if I had to convince myself it was!

It is my opinion that spontaneous plans – events that happen purely on a whim – are much better than the pre-planned kind. Alas, not everyone is of the same opinion as I and people keep trying to plan in advance things to do. I’m not talking about Weddings, or Zoom tours, or events with lots of people – things which REQUIRE planning to be good, I’m talking about small things like coffee with a friend, or dinner or a walk or whatever. I find by the time whatever has been planned comes around I’m not overly in the mood to go and do whatever it is, which reflects when I force myself to go and the whole time ends up being a bit bah.

Spontaneous? Much more exciting!

One of my favourite spontaneous friends is The Fourth Quarter. About two thirds of the time a ‘whatchu doin?’ txt will result in us going out and doing something – just cause we felt like it!

This was the case on Monday, where after taking Quinn on a mammoth walk I met up with the Fourth Quarter. We (the dog included) took the ferry out to Devonport for dinner.

Devonport Trip

Once there, we scouted out a cute little restaurant with outdoor seating and had THE BEST pumpkin ravioli, and THE BEST Margherita pizza I’d ever eaten. It was the kind of meal where you really just wanted to put your face to your plate, and cut out the hand movements in the hope that the food would get to it’s destination faster.

We, of course, refrained from such behaviour and instead enjoyed a nice sav which made me bubbly, and partook in fantastic conversation(which as is usual was filled with much gossip, much laughter and much sassing – one of the many reasons I <3 The Fourth Quarter so) and had a lovely night out.

We took the ferry back when things got dark (I had to carry Quinn in my hoodie, cause the poor little guy was shivering all crazy like in the wind!) and we took fuzzy photos of the city – it really was pretty all lit up harbour side.

Unfortunately with the movement of the ferry and a point and click camera our shots were pretty fuzzy. :) Ah well – I enjoyed myself immensely and it was a fantastic night out. In comparrison to the ‘planned’ socialising events it totally pwned! Spontaneous ftw, I think! :)

Remember when I mentioned Quinn needed a haircut? Well, he got one. His head is officially now in proportion with the rest of his body.

Quinn Quinn Quinn

He has gone from sad little emo, to clean cut do-gooder. As an example, he now responds to ‘leave’, which is something he usually only does with bribes!!
