I'm really competitive, and I like to win. This is by no means news to me (example - this competitiveness got me up Africa's tallest mountain). But, as competitive as I am, Zee is a MILLION times more competitive. He's also really vocal about it. The more he's winning, the more you hear about it. It's hard to have a date night that's about what a fun and collaborative relationship we have when we're at each others throats over a board game. This is why I typically avoid board games with him, where possible. Monopoly used to be part of our date night repertoire, but it was pulled when we realised that it was making us grumpy with each other. Which is why I was delighted to learn about Pandemic. A COLLABORATIVE board game!
High five for date night!
Essentially its you as a team verses disease outbreaks around the world. Each of you get special powers appropriate for different roles (like a Medic, or a scientist, or a research assistant) and together you have to cure four diseases. It was pretty intense to start (there's a pretty high learning curve) but once you're through it's smooth sailing.
We've played it a lot recently and have been bringing it out whenever someone comes over. Love it!
The collaborative-ness means that we're not competitive or at each others throats. It's a fun way to spend an hour or so. Definitely worth it.
What board games are you playing? Anything I should check out??
