I celebrated my March birthday a few weeks ago. And it was a little bit bittersweet - it's the birthday I celebrate with family. And right now? My family is on the other side of the world. The OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD! We're relegated to phone calls, emails, and facebook. Once I have internets again hopefully Skype, too. The point is that I miss them, I miss them a ridiculous amount. So I very much appreciated the free lunch that came with work, and the cute little card that everyone signed for me. I appreciated that The Fourth Quarter made me dinner, and that with The Third Quarter + Duke we sat around and played guitar, and ate birthday treats. Tasty tasty treats!
When I think about all that I've done the past year, I'm quite blown away.
I'd started The List (where I did fun things like change a flat tire, made cheese, hand fed stingrays, got a tattoo, made pumpkin soup + periogi, and planted a tree. Amongst other things). I got my first DSLR. I was learning how to work behind a bar, and I went through that random phase of being a ho, and then decided that a ho I did not want to be. I took camera classes + went mountain biking + joined a gym with Feidi. I started hanging out a lot and drinking till the early mornings with Zes + Lyth. A rediscovered an old friend, and she became very quickly became one of my very best friends. I showed a vague interest in soccer when The All Whites were undefeated in the Soccer World Cup.
I visited the snow an awful lot, and made it down to Wellington for my uncles surprise 50th. I tried to finish the Couch to 5k training sessions about 4 times. I amped up the design work for Sinter, joined the android army, and I started going to Jazz nights all over auckland with my friend Mac. I finished my 365 project. I visited two blog friends in Canada, and rode the snow at Whistler. I wandered the roads of Rome, and saw works by Michelangelo at Vatican City and drank wine in Tuscany. I tried to make snowmen in Sommerset, I had my first White Christmas, visited Paris and Windsor and Stonehenge, and then wished for more snow at the French Alps. I went paragliding.
I visited Firenze, and ate gelato. I stayed a week in Tuscan Villa, and I moved to London. I got myself a job, and flat, and it has been brilliant. I've met so many amazing people in the last year. I've figured out what kind of person I want to be, and what I don't want to be. I figured out what kind of people I want in my life, and what kind of people I should cut free. I've let some things go. I've grown some.
It's been an absolutely epic year. Here's to the next being just as epic.
