@Sarah - yeah, we had the broken computer stuff and empty pain tins and whatever too. The trick for scavenging is spotting the cool stuff in the crap before anyone else does. :)

How cool! I wish we did something like that here.

The closest we have is "Waste Weekend." We can stuff our toxic and electronic waste into a truck load and drop it off at city hall. It isn't very exciting, though, because there aren't any kid chairs or glitter wands. It's all, like, old keyboards and empty cans of paint thinner. SIGH.

@Desiree - oh that's so great! Isn't recycling wonderful?

@Maggie - I know, right? I was SO stoked when people came to take away our stuff, I was so glad it wasn't going to the tip!

That's just really so awesome. I really hate waste and would love it if my junk could be someone else's treasure. I'd just have to be careful not to start bringing home other people's junk to replace my own I'd gotten rid of. ;)

@Lys - Yeah, it's a pretty great thing! There are these great piles of rubbish up and down the road, and it's pretty fascinating to see what people will take :)

@Dee - Agreed! It's kind of amazing how much stuff people accumulate. Half the time you kind of forget that it could be useful to someone else :)

It's marvellous fun, isn't it? We put out heaps of stuff, and the pile was about 4/5ths the original size by the time the council collected a few days later.

xx Dee
