Hahaha, I adore XKCD – I follow it eagerly and generally manage a giggle at every comic. The latest comic was this one:

And then on youTube I saw the ‘Audio Preview’ button, how novel!! I immediately went back to the XKCD Blag (yes, that is ‘blag’ and not ‘blog’) and saw this entry, with this youTube Response:

Ahh, internet. I forgive you for being so nasty when you provide hilarious gems such as this. :)

A while back I posted about my friend, Christopher Reed, and I mentioned that he was in New York recording a couple of songs. Well he’s back now and earlier this week we had lunch. It was fantastic to see him. He’s apparently in talks with New Zealand on Air, so things are looking up for him, and I’m so glad. A long way from singing down the phone, or recording his songs to cassette by way of a dictaphone. :)

Anyway, he kindly gave me a couple of the tracks from NY, and I’ve uploaded them here …

This won’t be for everyone, but if you do like what you hear, let me know and I’ll make the mp3 files available for you. If you like them alot, he plays at The Crib in Ponsonby most Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Sunday’s.

(Also, in true musician style, he has a myspace page. Woo!)

Yann Arthus-Bertrand is an incredibly talented photographer, who has been taking photos of the Earth from, you guessed it, the sky. I love that his ‘aim’ is to inspire people to think globally about sustainable living, and some of his shots really do hit home.

But not that one, that one is just stunning. In case you haven’t already guessed, I kind of have a thing for elephants. These ones are in the Okavango Delta, in Botswana. According to boston.com (the source of this series), “The Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland delta, flooding seasonally, and is populated by five ethnic groups of people, sharing it with hundreds of species of animals. Perhaps it’s just that we’re so small a country, but it appears that Kiwi’s often get behind something (be it brands, sounds, or movies) simply because its Kiwi made – we’re happy to cheer for one of our own pushing the bar.

Which is why I was stoked to see Tiki Tane rocking an Illicit hoodie on one of the Antiform vids, I happen to adore Illicit/Misery and own several awesome hoodies myself. When I got to the comments, though, I cracked up. There is always one who wants to disagree:

GlossyiceIris
“i think hed look alot better without those hoody on -.- the song is prtety hilarious & awesome :-) 5/5 coz its a kiwi song :-)”

Tikidub
“GlossyiceIris…. HUH….? i love that hoodie dude, its an illict hoodie. Weird.
T”

(At this point, anyone who ever frequents youTube Tiki Tane Videos would know that ‘tikidub’ is infact, the awesome Tiki Tane.)

GlossyiceIris
“does it look like i care what you think? hehe not to be rude or anything :-) hes better off without the hoody :-) but youre entitled to your own opinion ;-)”

Tikidub
“Yo dude, its me TIKI…. u know tha guy in tha VIDEO…. whos wearing tha illicit hoodie….. you are weird man. Do some research dude, you just bummed yourself out.
tiki”

GlossyiceIris, in my opinion, just got pwned.

Sometimes there are things that are just better done with your Siblings. Last night I accidentally flooded the laundry. There was a small, cold lake of dirty washing water where I really really wished there was no small, cold lake.

Now, if I had been with anyone else other than my sister at the time, it would have been a silent, broody hour cleaning that mess up. But my sister is one of those people. She’d just had a shower, and was standing in her post-shower kimono tip-toe on a pile of sopping wet towels, mushing everything round with a mop. Not the most efficient, is my sister. After convincing her it would be better if we picked up the towels and wrung them out she was happy to do so.

After rinsing out a particularly large, still dripping towel, I saw her prepare to hoist it over her shoulder.

“Don’t you DARE flop it down so it splashes”

*Sibling lobs the towel into the middle of the lake, causing small cold waves to wash over my feet*

“I just told you not to do that, dickhead!”

It was the last word that got her. Suddenly we were both in a fit of giggles, the kind where your belly aches so much from the laughter that just keeps coming. The best part was that once it died down, it was easily restarted by one of us muttering “dickhead”, and we’d pause our rinsing and mopping to have another good laugh, and shake our heads and wipe the tears from our eyes.

In all honesty, I can’t say I’ve ever enjoyed cleaning up an accidental flood so much, and it’s doubtful I would have enjoyed it at all if it hadn’t been for the company I was in. So yeah, sometimes there are things that are just better done with your siblings. :)
